Every three years, a Swiss Yodelling Festival is held and attracts around 10,000 and more yodellers, flag-throwers, and alphorn players.

The most Swiss of sounds, the yodel, probably originated in the Stone Age as a call from mountain to mountain; choirs started singing yodelling songs in the 19th century and today there are around 2,000 Swiss yodelling songs. You can hear Switzerland’s best yodellers at the Eidgenössisches Jodelfest. This four-day yodelling Swiss festival and competition brings together some 15,000 yodellers every three years, each time in a different city.
