The festivals of games held at the Roman Colosseum could last for 100 continuous days. People arrived at the Colosseum at about 8am and did not leave until sunset. They had come to be entertained. They had come to see fabulous spectacles. They had come to revel in the might and the power of Rome. Romans loved to be reminded of the great victories they had achieved in battle.
It is estimated that the games played in the Colosseum for hundreds of years have taken the lives of about 500,000 people and over a million wild animals.
