If you had to choose between death and captivity which would you choose? Those that have taken history classes or watched war movies staged during the world wars are aware of incidences where spies upon fearing capture would take a cyanide pills to end their lives so as not to divulge information to the enemy.

But imagine this patriotic act carried out with a sword instead of cyanide! Japanese samurais when confronted with enemy capture performed their last act of allegiance was using their swords to slit their bowels, a tradition called Seppuko. On the other hand captivity probably meant a slower more painful death as the enemy tortured you till you had revealed any secrets you had, very gory indeed! Talk about being caught between a rock and a hard place!
